Our school was once again awarded the Discover Primary Science & Maths Award

Dear Parents,
Ø It is hard to believe that another school year is coming to an end. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your help and co-operation during the year. We look forward to working with you next year and hope that you have a lovely summer.
Ø We need to order our school books for next year, therefore all monies owed for Book Rental need to be in by this Thursday, 26th June. Thank you to those of you who have already paid.
Ø School Book Lists and next year’s school calendar will be distributed on Thursday, 26th June.
Ø This year our school has been involved in the following projects and activities: School Completion Programme, Junior Achievement Ireland, Green School Project, Shared Reading, Peer Tutoring (M. Siobhan),  and  Discover Primary Maths & Science (M. Audrey & M. Sinead).
Ø After- School Activities have included: French Club, (M. Anna) Sports Club (M. Audrey & Michelle), Environmental Club Digital Media (William),, Hip-Hop Dance (M. Aoife), Irish Dancing (M. Vanessa), Gaelic Football (M. Ann-Marie), Knitting Club (M. Rachel) and Spikeball (M. Sinead).

News from our classrooms
Ø All of our classes really enjoyed Sports Day and their school tours. The classes visited Turoe Pet Farm, Athenry Heritage Centre, Loughwell Pet Farm and Athlone.
Ø Congratulations to Anton O’ Connell, Patrick Rinavs, Ayesha Khan and Karl Mania for their acheivements in Shared Reading and many thanks to their parents for supporting them
Ø Many thanks to Muinteoir Eimear and Sixth Class who read every day for the past six weeks to the Senior Infant children. This was an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all the pupils involved.
Ø All classes are taking advantage of the nice weather and heading out and about on nature trails and also visiting our roof-top garden.
Ø We say ‘Goodbye’ to our 6th Class and 1st Class boys this week – we will miss you!

Sports News
Athletics
Well done to our athletes who competed in the City Schools Cumann na mBuncol competition in Dangan recently. A special congratulations to Sarah Agboola, 5th Class, Room 5 who won a gold medal for the 8- metre sprint at this event. Our thanks to Muinteoir Ann-Marie for training the girls.
Sarah also achieved 1st place in the Under 12 girls’ 60 metre sprint and girls’ relay competition in the Connacht Athletics Semi-Final in Sligo recently.

Football
Our school football team participated in a blitz in Pearse Stadium in Salthill recently. They played their best and we are very proud of them and Muinteoir Ann-Marie. A special thanks also to Dennis Carr who helped train our football team.
Teacher News
We say a fond farewell to Sr. Philomena who is retiring. We thank you for your years of hard work and commitment to Scoil an Linbh Iosa.

Summer Reading Challenge 2014
This is a FREE summer activity at your local library. The challenge this year is: “Mythical Maze.” We strongly encourage you and your children to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge and bring your children to see the mythical creatures: dragons, miotaurs, unicorns and maybe a few leprechauns in your local library.
