PARENTS:

· Welcome back to our new school year everyone and a very special welcome to our new parents! We hope you had a nice summer, that you managed to get some sunshine and that you have a successful and enjoyable year.

· Already life in school is fairly hectic. We have had our annual tests in reading and mathematics for our First Class children. Our parent/teacher meetings for this year will start next week. You will receive a note from the class teacher giving you date and time of the meeting.

· On the back of this newsletter you will find the school calendar for the coming year. There may be additional closures, but as yet, we have no dates. We will let you know of any additional dates as soon as they come to hand.

· As you know, we are obliged by law to report any absences of in excess of twenty days to the National Educational Welfare Board. Please contact us giving the reason for absence on the first day of any absence and also when you expect your child will be returning to school. This year we will continue to make a special effort to be at school every day.

· We are also obliged by law to report to the Health Service Executive any concerns which we might have regarding child welfare and protection or any concerns regarding the same which are reported to us by a third party.

· We continue to need your help and co-operation with parking. Please make sure that you are not parking in ‘no parking’ areas and you’re your car is not obstructing footpaths or entrances to private houses or business premises. We have been told that a ‘zero tolerance’ policy may be operated.

· Any parent who wishes to see the principal or a teacher at any time is very welcome to do so, provided an appointment has been made through the Principal’s Office. Every effort will be made to facilitate your request. You might also state the reason for the requested meeting.

· All callers to the school, for whatever reason, must first check in at the office,

· Watch out for news of courses for parents from Aoife, our Home School Community Liaison Co-ordinator (HSCL)

· If you have a child starting school in September 2012, please complete an enrolment form as soon as possible as places are filling up quickly.

· Just a few ‘annual reminders’:

Ø Children to be in line in Hall at 8.45 a.m.

Ø full school uniform to be worn except on P.E. day. If for any reason a child needs to wear a tracksuit at any other time, please inform the teacher of the reason;

Ø children may wear track suits each day if they wish during the winter months – i.e. from November to St. Patrick’s Day;

Ø provide your child(ren) with a lunch box for carrying the lunch and storing the leftovers. The lunch menu which children have requested may not be changed before next term.

Ø make sure name’s are on children’s belongings;

Ø regularly check children’s hair for signs of infestation;

Ø check schoolbags for notes and newsletters from school.

Mums and Dads please, please, when you bring your child to school in the morning, let him/her into the Assembly Hall and immediately leave the school. Do not come into the Assembly Hall and do not wait outside it or at the bottom of the stairs. There is simply not enough space. Feel free to go to the Parents Room for a chat and a cuppa, but please ‘kiss and go’ when bringing your child into the school.

Ø Our first walk to school day – WOW DAY – will be on Wednesday, 12th Oct,, the same day as we have our School Assembly. The class with the highest number of walkers on that day will receive the ‘Golden Boot Award’.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO US

· We are all delighted to be back together again at school. We welcome all our new infants and say a special welcome to those new girls who have come into other classes in the school.

· Our ‘After School Clubs’ are up and running for children from First Class upwards.

· We have some visiting teachers: Welcome Muinteoir Doireann and Muinteoir Claire.

· We have an additional class of girls this year. Welcome to all the girls in Room 14 and welcome to Muinteoir Marie. They say they love their newly decorated room.

· We are starting practising for our Fire Drill.
